 Shouldn't need new drivers.

Jeff - what media(ie DVDR) are you using?
Stupid question, but is the media capable of 8x?
Do you have the option to burn at 8x - in Nero?
Are you on the latest level of firmware for the LG?
Is it installed in a PC, or are you using it with a laptop?

 Latest appears to be A105

Get DVD Decrypter or DVDInfoPro to get you information.

Reading a DVD+RW is slower anyway, but you may have a riplock on the drive.

 Cheers
