The absolute best resolution possible for DVD is 720x480 for NTSC or 720x576
for PAL. In that context I'm not sure what 500 lines means...
Now, in your case, your source is VHS tape, are they all SVHS recorded
tapes? Or are you just playing back regular VHS tapes on a SVHS deck?
Remember your source is nowhere near 500 lines whether its VHS or SVHS, so
you cant get out what you dont have to start with...
Your best results will be achieved by playing the tapes back on the machine
that gives you the best picture from the tapes...that depends on tape
condition and tracking adjustments. The other thing to look into would be a
TBC(Time Base Corrector), a good one, like a SIMA SCC Pro...
