More importantly pay attention to the MID (Manufacturer's ID) which is
encoded onto the disc. Nero will read it.

Although rebranders don't put the MID on the package, they do have to
tell you the counrty where the discs were made. You can use that to
screen MIDs that you know are bad.

Verbatim, for example, is made in Japan, Taiwan, Singapore and India.
The first three are good discs according to the consensus, but the
ones made in India are not.

I did. I bought an Ilo DVDR05 from WalMart ($99). It is made by
CyberHome and is equivalent to their CH 1600 (Best Buy $120). I also
bought some Maxell DVD +RWs at WM but they would not format on the Ilo
so back they went. I got some Imation but they were full of defects
(Nero CD-DVD Speed Scan) so back they went.

I finally settled on Verbatim at Sam's Club and they are defect free.
I should have gotten them from the very first but they were not
available until recently. I got 30 for $28.
