IIRC, there have been 2 separate releases that discuss the internet
connection, the first being about the 2 forms of DRM including a
renewable one (renewing itself over an internet connection) and the
second being the BluRay player not allowing itself to be modded to be
(for isntance) region free.
I also seem to recall something about authenticating BluRay DISCS
themselves somehow, though this one seems less clear.
I'm not convinced that it's all a "done deal" but the releases and the
discussions certainly sound like it.
I'm sure that the guys at Sony really WANT it that way, though, in the
next few months-to-a-year, if their marketing drones figure out that we
won't buy them that way, we might see a last minute fix. (i hope).
My feeling right now is that I REALLY WANT A HD VIDEO PLAYBACK MACHING
(either format). DVDs don't really look that good. But I'm not
willing to tolerate any of this insane DRM crap. I'd be willling to be
an early adopter, inf act, ANXIOUS to be one, but they've succeeded in
forcing me to wait it out.
