It sounds like your particular DVD recorder is defective. I've read a few
reviews of it, and couldn't find the problem you report in those reviews.
HOWEVER, I've read that your particular model of DVD recorder has serious
problems trying to play DVDs that were recorded in other players. Maybe you
should take it back and get a Pioneer brand recorder to replace it. -Dave
