As a followup to this little saga, I did manage to copy the clip from
the original DVD onto a DVD in my DVDR. I put it at highest resolution
and pushed the little red button on cue.
I then ripped the mpg with VRD and sized it. It rendered it briefly
(according to the dialog) and then did the stream fix. I was then able
to import it successfully into MF4 and export it without any problems.
I treated it the same as the other clips in terms of the render
setting, eg Two Pass, etc. Now I have my last clip and have compiled
the final version, which has 16 of my favorite clips - and it just fit
a 4.3GB DVD. Talk about luck.
There is a serious bug in MF4. I would have been willing to share all
this with Ulead developers but they ignored my request to become a
beta test site. Anyway I am off to evaluating TDA which hopefully is
well written.
One last point. Having been involved with computer development for
over 45 years, I have seen just about everything, in particular with
embedded systems. I know why they work and why they do not work.
If an lone individual working weekends and evenings can put together a
masterpiece like DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter, and have no major bugs
(or minor ones either), then there is no excuse for a company like
Ulead to be screwing the consumer like they do with their outright
crap.
They have adopted the Microsoft business model which is "Publish in
Haste, Repent in Leisure - On the Way to the Bank".
The only thing we can do is to warn others about what crooked
companies like this are doing.
