However, the OP implied he wanted it for computer data backup. Those
machines only want to see video formated data. If he only wanted to
record video, your suggextion is a good one. That's what I do. Use my
Phillips machine to record off cable or from other media, but also for
videos I have generated on my computer, just plug firewire to recorder
and push a button.
