I have two burners on two computers -- one is an NEC 3550A with 105
firmware, and the other is a Sony DW-D26A with JS02 firmware. The first
TY disk I burned on the NEC had a quality score of 95. The second one
was 70. Since I have some Imation, Memorex, (MCC, Fuji, and CMC --
Taiwan and India) disks to get rid of, I tried burning those, too. Now,
for some reason, when I burn any disk (except TY, which I'm out of) on
EITHER drive, I get a quality score of 0 to 23. Any of the disks plays
fine on the DVD player, but I have some important files to archive, and
I do not trust the setup.
Is there anything in the source files that can cause a low quality
score? One computer is a Pentium III, while the other is an IBM Pentium
4. One operating system is Windows 2000, while the other is Windows XP
Professional. Both machines are working perfectly and are up to date.
I'm somewhat stumped. Is there anything that can cause DVD Speed to
report erroneous results? It looks like I'm off to the store to buy a
Plextor drive for comparison, although I really would rather not waste
money on a new drive, if it is going to do the same thing in this setup.
