FYI...thanks to all of you who took the time to respond to my initial
inquiry. Just as a follow-up to my original question, I thought I'd pass
along some recent information that came my way concerning sync issues that
heretofore was not mentioned in this thread of messages and or to qualify
that statement, not shared with me in newbie terms that I can understand.
I posted my sync problem to this address:

....and got this response;
The best way to capture is via firewire. When capturing via firewire into a
DV-AVI file, your sync should hold. If your capturing from an analog source,
you can get a converter (such as a Canopus ADVC-100) to convert from analog
to firewire.
I continued my research into the Canopus here;

....and read through the many glowing user comments regarding this equipment.
From my novice perspective, this equipment seems to be the answer to my sync
issues. Perhaps there are a few of you who disagree with this approach and
if so, wouldn't mind sharing your opinions...?
