My mistake. The mov components are wired in parallel across the mains, (two
prong plug) and to earth ground (three prong plug). By series I meant one
plugged into another one. I've added more spike protectors as response time
has improved. I've also added a Panamax power strip to provide protection
on the phone line to the satellite receivers, and input from the OTA
antenna.
And they do work, regardless of what you think.
I live in a very rural area, and last summer a very close lightning strike
to a tree behind the house resulted in the death of several surge
protectors, but no damage to the
items plugged into them (electronics, freezer, refrigerator).
