  I would probably avoid an $8 cable, but $100 is grossly overpriced.  
Probably $30-40 will get you a decent cable. Avoid overpriced names like  
Monster Cable. Also, remember that a digital signal isn't quite as picky  
as analog. It's generally all or nothing. 
 
  You may also want to wait on an upconverting DVD player. With BluRay  
and DVD-HD coming out next year, those players will probably upconvert  
older DVD's. Also, DVD's (at least in the US and other NTSC areas), are  
encoded for 480i video. Even a progressive player has to buffer and  
assemble two fields to create 480p. Many do a poor job and can result in  
LOWER vertical resolution than when sending 480i. Upconverting players  
first convert to 480p, then upconvert that to 720p or 1080i. Depending  
on your TV, an analog 480i signal may look better than one upconverted  
to digital 1080i.
