You do not need - nor do you want - an external splitter because it is
unnecessary and degrades the TV signal.
The DVDR has a built-in splitter. The input to this splitter is the TV
IN connector on the back of the DVDR.
One branch of the output of this built-in splitter goes to the DVDR
tuner internally and the other goes to the DVDR TV OUT connector. You
connect a short cable from the DVDR TV OUT connector to the TV set.
Because the DVDR internal tuner is isolated electronically from the
tuner in the TV set. each can be tuned to different channels.
