I think you got a bad player. I've had mine for a year, and the image
is fine. With bought DVDs, though, any "big sound" movie sounds better
with my RCA.
There are some codecs that the dvp642 won't play, in particular qpel
coding is a problem. There is a well-regarded LG model which is
supposed to play qpel-coded files as well.
