Hi, I have recently had the need to convert old VHS tapes to digital
for editing. We have a Canon GL1 and a chepie Canon camera for
rewinding and capturing the tapes to computer. The GL1 takes input from
analog sources and can record it to DV tapes. The only problem with
this is that I have to record it to MiniDV first; I can't capture it in
realtime as I'm playing it. So this involves recording from the VCR to
the GL1, putting the MiniDV tape in the little camera, rewinding it and
capturing it from there. I have looked at some USB and IEEE1394
capturing interfaces. Most of them seem to capture to MPEG2 or
something else. Since I'm working with DV, it seems to make sense to
get one that captures to DV, rather than MPEG. Which method of
capturing would people on this list recommend? What brands are good?
Canopus? ADS? Pinnacle? something else? Does anyone have specific
models they use and like?
Thanks for any and all recommendations.
Josh
