Drive failures are a way of life unless one coughs up the cash and buys into
enterprise level storage solutions.

With such a low budget you should think about how to reduce the problem of a
drive failure. I'd have a second drive to back up the important project
information i.e. a big firewire drive. A RAID with suitable performance for
video editing that provides fault tolerance will not come in at your budget
level.

I tend to use Western Digital drives but have also uses Seagate quite a lot.
They all fail eventually but to increase their life keep them cool...
