I'll pass until this shakes itself out. I don't plan to buy two
different new players and I won't buy a DVD that can't be played
on either computer or DVD player.
HP, Dell, Sony, Panasonic, MGM, Disney, and EA are backing
Blu-Ray.
Toshiba, NEC, Sanyo, Paramount, Universal, and Warner
are backing HD-DVD.
Neither is compatible with the other. HD-DVD is said to be
backward compatible with current DVD's. No current player
will play the new formats.
Until one of the new formats reaches critical mass, providers
will have to make content available on the current format DVD's
if they want to sell any.
