I have HDTV and DVD, and the difference is significant, very near the
difference between OTA and DVD.

The real question that comes to mind, is what level of compression are
you watching your HDTV at. Certainly NBCs Olympic broadcasts show how
bad overcompression can be, but PBS shows like the latest season of
Rick Steves and Rudy Maxa's smart travels show how excellent HDTV is
(like walk into the screen detail)

Mind you, I am projecting at 100 inches diagonal, and the difference
is certainly going to be seen more at this size than on a 28 inch
monitor.

BTW his attack isn't an ad hominem, to be an ad hominem, the insult
involved has to have no bearing on the argument. In this case he is
statring (maybve with inappropriate language, that you are in fact
wrong, and that is easily defended by looking at the difference in
simple numbers when comparing OTA vs. DVD vs. HDTV.

If he were to have said that you are White Trash, and therefore you
wouldn't know the difference between HDTV and what your aerial made
from a coat hanger picks up, that would be an ad hominem, becasue
simply being white trash doesn't mean you can't tell a good picture
from bad, but in this case only an idiot (or a blind man)( can say
that well displayed HDTV isn't a significant improvment over well
diplayed DVD, and that's true.
