You have to pay through the nose for sky+. If I were replacing a
video I would go for a PVR anytime. Tivo transformed our viewing
lives - after I got Tivo I bought a DVD recorder, and I never use it.
Compared to a VCR it's brilliant, but compared to Tivo it's a pain in
the arse.
A good PVR will do all the things Sky+ will do and more, and you don't
pay extra fees to Murdoch every month for the same old shite.
Tivos are hard to find in the UK these days because they forked up the
marketing. But there are plenty of rival PVRs. The latest Topfield and
Humax models have their devotees. Check out

for info and reviews.
Once you've paused live TV to answer the phone/fetch a beer/go for a
piss you'll never go back.
