There are a number of disk-based recorders on the market, using either
DVD, or hard drives as a storage medium. There are also
mpeg-4/divx players, machines with freeview tuners, and combinations
of all of these.
It also looks as if there are now mpeg-4 encoding chipsets available -

(it's an mpeg-4 encoder which puts video onto memory stick etc)
My question is, has anybody seen a dvd-based video recorder which will
do mpeg-4 encoding? Strikes me that this would allow a considerable
amount of programming to be stored on one disk. A combination of that,
and a freeview tuner (and I know that most of the current ones don't
transcode freeview) would be a killer product.
