Say you have 4 devices you want to plug into your TV, and your TV only
has 1 input. Reciever can help by allowing you to hook up all 4 devices
to your TV using only needing to connect 1 set of cables to your TV.
Reciever will then switch signals for you.

Say you have a VCR or more likely a DVDR unit, reciever allows you to
send any of the 4 video signals to the VCR.

In theory the Reciever should act as the hub for all of your video and
audio equipment allowing you to then just use one set out outputs to
your TV.

But, If you only have a DVD player and nothing else, might as well just
plug directly into the TV. I have about 8 video devices on my rack
right now. My TV doesn't have 8 inputs. I wire everything through the
reciever and it sends the video to the TV via 1 set of cables. I also
have a DVDR, the Reciever allows me to record any one of those 8
signals on the DVDR by use of the 'VCR Output' cables, etc.
