Well yeah, that's true, but the problem with most hard-drive based
systems is that you can't get the recorded program off the drive. I
know that the toppy has a usb interface which will allow you to do
this, but it's a bit slow, and if you want to archive the recordings
then mpeg-4 seems like a good choice from a size/capacity of disks
point of view.
