I presume you want to connect the dock to the power adaptor in order to
charge your iPod without having to plug the lead in the bottom? And for some
reason you don't want to plug the dock into your PC.
In either case use the lead that came with the iPod.
If you got your iPod second hand and it didn't have the lead (You were had!)
but all the iPod shops sell them but for the power adaptor you can only use
the USB one not the Firewire type.
You will notice the lead (that came with your iPod) has the same connector
as the dock on one end. The other is the same as your PC or the power
adaptor i.e. a USB plug, so it can charge either from your PC or from the
power adaptor.
Usually the only reason to get a power adaptor is to be able to charge the
iPod when away from the computer.
