Nappy, I have to disagree with you. Hand ten people some paint and
brushes and tell them to just go out and start doing art, and you may
luck out with one of them having "some" natural talent. It is the same
with video. This guy just buys a camera and starts shooting stuff with
no training, it's going to look like the crap he's complaining about in
his first post. The whole point of the exercise is to get some training
first, THEN build on it with practical experience.
People can have various opinions of the time spent trying to re-invent
the last 100 years' worth of film technique on your own, but I'd hardly
say it's economical or an effective use of time. While I think it's
great to gather all the information you can on the internet, it's not a
true substitutes for a real education. The best method would be to take
some classes simultaneously along with a practicum or internship for
the hands-on aspects.
After THAT, aquiring your own tools and experiences wold make the most
sense, IMO.
