Well Greg, it sounds like you're trying all the fixes at once, that
could be the problem.
Try ...
Put hosts file back to normal
Uninstall all traces of WinMx including removing the directory.
Install the full version from ... <http://www.winmxgroup.com/>
it worked for me.
