Commercially produced videos must be produced in the thousands to be cost
effective, since a glass master must be produced and then the DVDs stamped
from that.

Consumer DVDs are dye-based...a completely different concept. Although some
claim that their brands will last for 100 years, I have only seen a study
that varifies such long life for Mitsui-A Archive brand DVDs. Expect to pay
at least $3 a blank disc.

DVD will be an obsolete medium within 10-15 years at the outside...just how
long do you want to archive?
