Go find a product called GoDVD by Sima, I got mine from
tigerdirect.com, and it is a box that goes between the VCR and DVD
burner (on the video cable only) and basically filters out the
Macrovision signal. It's less than $70. The signal is a large spike
that the DVR sees and knows it's protection from a source. The TV
basically ignores the signal, which is why the tapes work fine.
I have made about 50 backups of commercial tapes, and not one of them
would not back up after adding the GoDVD box.
