Another pet-hate of mine is when today's date or year or century is cited in
order to illustrate a point that has nothing to do with that. People in,
say, 1820 were at that time saying things like "This is *1820* for goodness
sake!" as if that obviously meant something to do with anything.
In the above sentence, replace every second word with "peanuts" and the
relevance to anything that went before becomes clear.

I didn't see any desperate people or posts on this thread. Some topics are
clearly taboo to even broach by some enlightened individuals in this 21st
century of ours though.
