There are a few things that could cause this:
- The DV-S5450 Owner's Manual doesn't explicitly say it'll play
DVD+/-R. My older Sony DVD player didn't either and I experienced the
same problem you're having. Can you try your disks in another player?
- Poor media quality. Try a name brand (not Memorex) burned at a slow
speed.
- How do you compress with Roxio? Try using Disc Copier. If you're
already using Disc Copier, download and try using DVDShrink.
Personally, because of my experience with my older Sony DVD player, I'm
thinking your player may not be capable of reliable DVD+/-R playing. My
fix was a new $99 Sony that explicitly said on the box that it'll play
DVD+/-R's.
