I bought the Samsung HD950, had it 2 days then returned it. It seemed
to be the ideal player, but the tray wouldn't open properly after it had
been on for more than 10 minutes (you had to unplug/plug it in again to
open the tray) and it wouldn't recognise .mpg files over 2Gb in size.
Hmm I too was looking for the Denon and phoned my local hi-fi shop and asked
their advice, as that was where I bought my last player from (Pioneer 565)
and after chatting for some time the impression I got was that the Denon was
good but really its only selling because of the "good reviews = lots of
sales cycle = no stock" but I should hang on for the new range of
Pioneers - not sure yet when they are (Pioneer 585??)
Anyway in the meantime picked up a Samsung 950 and its ok but I too had the
"draw not opening" when i installed it - so called RS who said to return it.
Unplugged it all and gave it a good shake and it worked! and has worked fine
ever since. The main grip I have is lack of info (OSD) U can only see the
total elapsed time and nothing else ;-( unless someone knows different.
Pioneer would show elapsed (total and track) time and remaing time (both
chap and disc) as well as total no of chaps and bit rate etc. The "white"
display is useless unless you are looking directly at it (at eye level)
unlike the blue/red displays that can generally be seen from across a room.
