Sure there is an excuse for it. It's called "profit". It will work
too, until someone better comes along.
The day of DVD rental is soon to end, what with broadband and
streaming technology. You will have to obtain a license key to unlock
your content so no one else can unlock it. But you will be able to
view it numerous times from your licensed player.
