Although this is an extremist view, it may be on the right track. With
rumors that iTunes will be offering full movie downloads soon and with
just about every major studio trying to figure out how to make video
downloads work (and all the illegal movie downlaods currently going on)
coupled with the rapidly increasing availabilty of higher and higher
bandwidth connections, paradigm might shift from DVD rental by mail to
DVD rental by download.

The problem with providing frustrating service is that it encourages
users to seek out new avenues. Users on the internet are spoiled and
so are very quick to shift to something else or to decry something for
not living up to expectations. Netflix rose pretty quickly, but it
could fall much faster.
