TV Pilot Plot: Through a genetic fluke, a professional race-car driver, Ben
Richards, discovers that he was born with natural immunities to every known
illness. His blood has certain properties that will make him, basically,
immortal. Barring a fatal accident, Ben should live longer than anyone has
ever lived. But, a dying billionaire named Maitland finds out about the
racer's blood, and is determined to keep himself alive though periodic
transfusions of Ben's blood -- blood that can cure diseases, rejuvenate and
extend life in others. The old man becomes obsessed with caging Ben, to use
him as a personal fountain of youth. Ben escapes his captor, and is forced
to stay on the run to avoid the billionaire's goons while also searching for
his long-lost brother, Jason. Jason Richards may have the same kind of blood
as Ben, and may face the same kind of danger. This was the plot of the 1969
TV pilot ("The Immortal"), starring:
Christopher George .... Ben Richards
Ralph Bellamy .... Dr. Matthew Pearce
Jessica Walter .... Janet Braddock
Carol Lynley .... Sylvia Cartwright
Barry Sullivan .... Jordan Braddock
The TV pilot was followed by the 1970-71 TV-series ("The Immortal") that ran
15 episodes.
TV Series Plot: Elderly billionaire Maitland hires mercenary Fletcher to
track Richards all over the country, capture him, and bring him back to
Maitland's estate for periodic transfusions. The series details Richards'
adventures with people he meets along the way, all the while fleeing from
Fletcher and his goons. while also searching for his long-lost brother,
Jason. Jason Richards may have the same kind of blood as Ben, and may face
the same kind of danger. The TV-series starred:
Christopher George .... Ben Richards (1970-1971)
Don Knight .... Fletcher (1970-1971)
David Brian .... Arthur Maitland (1970-1971)
Carol Lynley .... Sylvia Cartwright (1970-1971)
The TV pilot and TV series have never been released on VHS or DVD. However,
a number of years ago the pilot and series were run from time to time on

Vol. 1 - The Immortal: "Sylvia" / "White Elephants Don't Grow on Trees"
