Some models of iPod came with USB connectors, some with firewire and
some with both. Apple prefers firewire, where the connector is a
hollow oblong with a curve at one end. This is the same cable that
connects to the charger unit. The symbol is a circle with three arms
coming off it, a bit like the symbol for radioactive (except that that
used to have a skull at the centre, until the nuclear PR people
changed it to a solid circle, not many people know that)
And for what it's worth when I use Ephpod it's quite happy with a USB
connection.
