As was mentioned, the Videonics MX-1 will give you everything you need
and are all over places like eBay for around $200, we used a bunch of
them for years whenever we needed a quick set-up involving multiple
sources until we came into the services of a used Grass Valley 100, a
new MX70 and replaced A/B-roll editors with NLEs. Although LiveChannel
could very well be a good option (basically anything is going to be an
upgrade to using an A/B switch.)

Unfortunately, the "live production market" for schools, public access
and very small stations have very few options out there, but a few
manufacturers due cater to that size. Everything coming out in the
consumer/prosumer market seems geared towards shooting and editing,
while ignoring the concept of live multi-camera (understandably so,
because of the small numbers), which is why you often see many people
asking questions in this group about multi-cam recording for concerts,
plays and other smaller events.
