It's an eminently sensible idea for the very reasons you quote. But doesn't
do a lot for integrating everyday gay & hetero culture.

I mean, I'd be justifiably angry at being hit on if some horny
gay dude hadn't first bothered to establish whether or not I was
a friend of Dorothy.
......of course, if he were to pay me a compliment & buy me a
drink or two first......
