Take my word for it, they work just as well. You could equally ask how
foreign drama works so well when you are listening to a foreign
language and reading subtitles; As long as you can read the dialogue
quickly enough and the story is good then it comes down to the acting
and atmosphere generated. Communication is only 25% vebal anyway so
you get a lot of it through the visuals and the sound track.
In a way it is better I don't speak the language, I can't tell if their
verbal acting is shite and so am not distracted by thinking "she is
such a bad actress"
I found the Japanese version of "the Grudge" as spooky as the remake
and the Film "The Eye" had me creeped out in parts, the caligraphy
office and the market place ghosts in particular.
I take you haven't watched any foreign horror then?
