As I historically remember, most of it dates back to conspiracy theories
about Lucas originally being hesitant about DVD (since he'd been one of
the DiVX supporters)--
Which caused all the fans to cry that he was deliberately "holding out"
on sending Episode 1 to disk, when, in fact, he was taking all that time
to fool around with the deleted scenes...
....But, of course, such logic was lost on the new official fan
declaration that Lucas DVD Policies Are Probably Evil Anyway, No Matter
What He Actually Does.
Derek Janssen (of course, this's over the last seven years, so my memory
may be failing <wheeeze>)
