Many cameras that cost a fraction of a VX2100's price also
have manual audio level.

When you are dealing with "rock music" levels, you frequently
need more than just manual audio level. You frequently also
need "pads" or attenuators to knock the excessive levels down
to something managable. In some cases, external attenuators
may allow even cameras with auto-level cope with rock "music".

Note, however, that cameras which have only on-board microphones
(and no mic jacks) are usually not suitable for recording music of any
kind.

Due to my personal tastes in music, however, 2 or 3 layers of duct
tape over the microphone would make any rock music sound better
to ME. :-)
