Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of BLEAK HOUSE, THE FIVE HEARTBEATS,
THE GOOD EARTH, INTO THE AIR: A KITEBOARDING EXPERIENCE, LADY AND THE
TRAMP: 50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION, LEE RITENOUR: OVERTIME, MARTHA STEWART:
MARTHA'S WEDDING IDEAS, PULSE (KAIRO), THE SEAT FILLER, 13 GOING ON 30:
THE FUN AND FLIRTY EDITION, THE VISITATION, and WEEK-END IN HAVANA:

BLEAK HOUSE (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall score 93/100):
"The best thing about Bleak House is that, for an eight-hour costume
drama, it books along with the pace of a well-timed Die Hard film.
Despite having the luxury of the mini-series format on its side, it has
to advance the plot at a maddening pace to get it all out there on the
screen. Don't expect one of these somber leisurely paced Masterpiece
Theatre affairs -- this one is like Twin Peaks on steroids funneled back
a few centuries."

THE FIVE HEARTBEATS (reviewed by Neal Solon, overall score 79/100):
"Yes, these types of people existed, these forces came into play, and
these events happened in the lives of singers of the era. Unfortunately,
attributing the worst incidents that befell The Dells, The Isley
Brothers, The Temptations, and Jackie Wilson to one, fictional group and
making these incidents the thrust of a film results in an unbelievable
story that becomes increasingly less compelling as it drags on for
roughly two hours."

THE GOOD EARTH (reviewed by Joel Pearce, overall score 90/100):
"Combining an exotic setting with timely social commentary, The Good
Earth has weathered the past 70 years surprisingly well, thanks to its
award-winning performances and cinematography."

INTO THE AIR: A KITEBOARDING EXPERIENCE (reviewed by David Johnson,
overall score 90/100):
"It looked like fantastic fun. And that's probably the biggest
compliment I can lay on this disc: as someone who is relatively adverse
to alternative sports and skis with the finesse of a front end loader, I
desperately wanted to try this."

LADY AND THE TRAMP: 50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION (reviewed by Steve Evans,
overall score 94/100):
"There are more than enough troubles in this worrisome world to justify
an investment of 76 fleeting minutes in a little animated film that
delivers so much in return."

LEE RITENOUR: OVERTIME (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall score 82/100):
"Ritenour is not out to rewrite the rulebook or change the perception of
instrumental music in the eyes of the converted. No, he wants to expand
the aural horizons of those who may not be initiated in the free-form
facets of the American musical art form and create delicate, detailed
tapestries of sound and symbiosis."

MARTHA STEWART: MARTHA'S WEDDING IDEAS (reviewed by Brett Cullum,
overall score 85/100):
"Let's face it, Martha Stewart is Satan. No, actually she's probably
some kind of evil overlord of Lucifer himself, and he is merely a minion
enslaved to do her bidding."

PULSE (KAIRO) (reviewed by Adam Arseneau, overall score 86/100):
"Kiyoshi Kurosawa (no relation to Akira) is one of those rare and
rewarding directors who you have to work hard at being a fan of. His
films are multi-layered, intertextual, complex, deep, and genre-bending,
but almost universally strange and alienating to the point of being,
well, kind of annoying. David Lynch does kind of the same kind of thing,
but Kurosawa does it on a really, really low budget and in an extremely
Japanese sort of way."

THE SEAT FILLER (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall score 86/100):
"And who's that playing Jhnelle's assistant and best friend? Yep, it's
Melanie Brown, who is also known around the world as Scary Spice. I hope
she and Kelly form a new super group and call it either Destiny's Spice
or Scary Child."

13 GOING ON 30: THE FUN AND FLIRTY EDITION (reviewed by Joel Pearce,
overall score 90/100):
"It is the antithesis of the ugly ducking story, a fresh and funny
deconstruction of the shallow tripe that we have seen so many times."

FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/13goingon30se.php

THE VISITATION (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 86/100):
"It's a supernatural thriller with obvious Christian tendencies, but The
Visitation is far from Sunday School."

FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/visitation.php

WEEK-END IN HAVANA (reviewed by James A. Stewart, overall score 81/100):
"The movie itself is a dazzling Technicolor display throughout, showing
off the colorful sets and costumes in nearly every scene, not just the
dance numbers. It has held up well, with even the montage stock footage
coming across as fresh and looking like new."
