I did! (actually like it I mean)

While I did think it was perhaps just a little "stuck-up", its cinematogaphy
and character-depth was second to none.
Whatever you thought of them, those people _lived_ and jumped out of the
screen. It's impossible to see the film and not "know them" and know where
they're coming from and their motivations and feelings.
Most movies nowadays can only hint at such depth.

That movie can hold its own against almost anything by David Lean.

Unfortunately, its winning is probably responsible for all the dross that
won after it, as the Academy sought desperately to re-tune itself with the
masses.

I can't remember what it was up against. I don't know if I'd have awarded it
best picture. It's nowhere near the list of "Best Pictures that should never
have been" though.
