I have had no problems with my ILO DVDR05MU1 ($99 at WalMart) with 610
firmware (from tech support).
It will play "standard" XviD 350 MB files (42 minutes). You may run
into an occasional AVI where the bitrate or frame size is outside of
tolerance, but I have had that happen to me only once and that was a
while back.
MPEG-4 codecs are being improved constantly and the ones out now are
doing a very credible job. About 3 months ago they were a bit "jumpy"
but they fixed that.
