My scart TV was already six years old before DVD came out.

I'm one of many who have cancelled our subscriptions to glossy video
magazines because we are sick of reading about a format which isn't
available yet and we couldn't even use if it was.

I've never made any such claim. My late grandfather "Frits" was however
chief engineer at Philips when the first LaserVision disc was demonstrated.
He wrote a book about it called "45 Years With Philips". For some reason it
was never a best seller?

Correct, and then went on to make a small fortune from selling it. My
business partners can take all of the credit for that. I doubt very much I
will repeat the experience with HD but am looking forward to being proved
wrong.
