Today, DVD Verdict posted reviews of CAKE, DEAL OF THE CENTURY, DOG EAT
DOG!, THE DOT...AND MORE STORIES TO MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD (SCHOLASTIC VIDEO
COLLECTION), EVERYBODY WINS, THE GARDENER (AKA SEEDS OF EVIL), GREG
BEHRENDT IS UNCOOL, ISLAND OF LOST SOULS (1974), THE PERFECT NEIGHBOR,
THE RICHARD PRYOR COLLECTION, and RING AROUND THE ROSIE:

CAKE (reviewed by Jonathan Weiss, overall score 71/100):
"Finding the right chemistry between actors can be tough and finding the
right words to put into their mouths can be even tougher. When you take
all that into account you can see why only a select few titles are
universally recognized as the creme del a creme. You could also argue
that that's probably why there are more celluloid atrocities produced in
the name of love than any other genre."

DEAL OF THE CENTURY (reviewed by Patrick Naugle, overall score 58/100):
"Friedkin stages a lot of semi-interesting scenes, but they tend to lag
and become stagnant; either Deal of the Century needed to be a serious
movie about arms dealers or just an out-and-out slapstick comedy. As it
is, the film is somewhere in-between."

DOG EAT DOG! (reviewed by Steve Evans, overall score 59/100):
"For every step forward made by the feminist movement, Jayne jiggled
and fell down three flights of stairs. And then giggled at what she
had done."

THE DOT...AND MORE STORIES TO MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD (SCHOLASTIC VIDEO
COLLECTION) (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 75/100):
"Each story features characters embracing perseverance, and committing
to do whatever they put their minds to. You know, that 'you can be
anything you want to be' crap."

EVERYBODY WINS (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 76/100):
"Alas, the flick blew its wad early and coasted for the final 20 minutes
or so to an unsatisfying conclusion."

FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/everybodywins.php

THE GARDENER (AKA SEEDS OF EVIL) (reviewed by David Johnson, overall
score 73/100):
"This bud's not for you."

FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/thegardener.php

GREG BEHRENDT IS UNCOOL (reviewed by Aaron Bossig, overall score
65/100):
"What Behrendt has done is give us a setup without a punchline, a
technique he will repeat throughout the show. He's getting the audience
to agree with him, but that's not the same as making them laugh."

ISLAND OF LOST SOULS (1974) (reviewed by David Johnson, overall
score 77/100):
"Nuking some idiot with a seagull hat is cool and all, but inspired
moments like that are few, making Island of Lost Souls an unremarkable
prison film."

THE PERFECT NEIGHBOR (reviewed by David Johnson, overall score 62/100):
"There are worse ways to spend 93 minutes, though sitting through this
derivative, predictable Lifetime movie-of-the-week wannabe ranks at
about the 'out-patient surgery' level."

FULL REVIEW: http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/perfectneighbor.php

THE RICHARD PRYOR COLLECTION (reviewed by Bill Gibron, overall
score 68/100):
"He is the greatest comedian of all time and when he spoke for himself,
no one could deny him that title. Sadly, his cinematic efforts betrayed
him every time. Here's hoping that future generations ignore his
filmography and concentrate on his comedy."

RING AROUND THE ROSIE (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall score 65/100):
"It's not scary, but at least it has some competent actors in it. Ring
Around the Rosie is just another notch on my belt as I wait for
something unique and cool to hit the horror genre. This definitely
ain't it."
