Multiple DVD editions

Posted by Bernie Woodham on 03/12/06 09:08

I got to wondering tonight how many people are out there collecting multiple
dvd editions of a given film. And if certain films in particular are more
popular in this way.

For instance I now possess two different editions of "The Wizard of Oz".
The single disc edition that has been out for years and the recently
released 3-disc collector's edition. There also is available a 2-disc
edition.

Another film I have multiple editions of is "Bull Durham", chiefly because
the more recent disc offers a commentary from Kevin Costner and Tim Robbins.
I haven't been able to get around to watching this yet, (or actually
listening to the commentary), but I am part way through the second disc of
"Wizard"

Still another film I have multiple editions of is "Basic Instinct". Again,
second release contained a commentary from feminist Camille Paglia. It was
interesting to hear those comments on this particular film. There is
actually about four different editions of this film; one comes complete with
an ice pick.

"Amadeus" has two editions and I do have the first one, (the flipper), but I
have passed on the second because "Apocalypse Now Redux" has turned me off
of director's cuts.

I once had the MPI version of "A Hard Day's Night" and sold it for nearly
$100.00 because I heard of a new two disc set that was to be released.
After picking up the 2 disc set, I wished I had held onto my MPI edition.
Such is life.

Anyway, can anyone else chime in about the need for multiple editions of
particular films?
