Best DVD standard for Pioneer HD plasma

Posted by Damon on 06/14/19 11:42

I have a Pioneer HD plasma with my DVD outputing through component
leads.

Given that PAL and NTSC have different amounts of lines
525/60 NTSC display with 480 viewable lines and
625/50 PAL/SECAM display with 576 viewable lines

Does one display better than the other or is it 6 of one half a dozen
of the other?

To be honest and I am sure I am not alone here in saying that the
resolutions and scaling etc confuse the arse off me. The component out
setting on the DVD player reads 480progressive then the info on the
screen display says 526interlaced so presumeably upscaled.

The resolution of the panel BTW is 1024x768 and displays at either 75
or 100htz

I usually get R1 DVDs but if PAL are supposed to display better on an
HD setup then I will look closer to home. I haven't got an NTSC and
PAL version of the same source to test visually so I will settle for
the theory on this for now.

Help appreciated, thanks

Damon
