Sure, if you try heard enough, you could erase a hard drive (a few bits
or many). Drives can also die while sitting on a well-isolated shelf.
But so can DVDs. Meanwhle, I've mostly had good luck with both.

I like Acronis better, but I just meant to give an example, rather than
an endorsement. You should use what you like or what the reviews you've
seen encourage you to use :-) *But* you should use *something* (which
is, for sure, what you're saying).

Unfortunately, most anything is subject to such contingencies. The pros
are big on using more than one solution and storing some of that stuff
off-site as well. Murphy, of course, is lurking in a dark corner
somewhere...

I like to drive fast, but I also like to come to a full stop at stop
signs. If you look hard enough, you can find other inconsistencies in
my behavior and preferences as well :-)
BTW, my spell checker doesn't like your name. Mine either, for that
matter. IMO, it's not a great spell checker...
