I personally use 350 MB for 42 minutes. That has the average bitrate
up there near 1000 Kb/s.

I have not seen any difference between 1-pass and 2-pass. My
understanding is that 2-pass does a better job of variable bitrates
which are necessary for rapidly changing frames. Most of the stuff I
play with is not that kind, even though it does have action scenes.
IOW, 1-pass appears to work even on action scenes because it can
detect the need for bitrate speedup well enough in advance because
only a small part of the frame is changing rapidly.
