Hi-
I have been working for the last five years with desktop editing. I
currently use Premiere Pro with a Matrox capture system, and edit on a
PC running Windows XP. I've gotten pretty adept at using these tools.
I generally shoot with five cameras, capture the tape, and go from
there.
I have recently been approached about working live events, like
athletic events, political events such as debates, concerts.... that
sort of thing. I have seen this done with set ups that use
multicamera, real time editing. The systems I have seen both capture
for later use, as well as do real time broadcast.
I already own a number of Canon XL1s, but would have to purchase a
software package and a computer up to the task.
My research has turned up a couple of software options. At the risk of
setting off a discussion that may already have happened before on this
group, I would like to solicit opinions on the relative merits of FCP v
Avid. What are the real world pros and cons of working with each?
Are there other software packages that offer the quality and features
of FCP/Avid that I may have overlooked?
Any suggestions from the group on hardware type, OS, number of HDs,
size of HDs?
There are two final goals here : 1) real time multi cam editing for
immediate broadcast via web or possibly projection in an auditorium (
as in projecting a candidate's speech to a large auditorium via DLPs)
and 2) capture to the computer HDs for later DVD reproduction.
Can any of you offer me advice on any of this? Are there web
resources, tutorials, online communities that offer the wisdom and
expertise of a group, like this one?
