Can't you cobble together another pc, and network them?
Say, something like the following could be bought without the monitor for
300 or so:

With a wireless mouse and KB you've got your media server, but on top of
that you've the internet, add a usb tv tuner, and you've a freeview pvr,
plus online radio & all the other things a pc can do.
