QUESTION: Is it too early to get an HD player for DIVX/XVID??

Posted by BD on 03/31/06 04:55

Hey, all.

I'm noticing a few more HD recordings of TV shows becoming available in
XVID format. I'd love to be able to play these at home, but I don't
have an HD player yet.

I'd kind of assumed that it was still a bit early for HD players at a
'reasonable' price point ($150), but poking around lately I see a few
out there.

I haven't spent any time on videohelp.com or anything yet, I just
thought I'd ping the group for anecdotal feedback on anyone who's tried
to get HD DIVX/XVIDs working on a home player.

I have a 51' Toshiba widescreen TV from last year, FWIW. Pretty sure it
would have all the required connectivity bits.

Would I need HDMI for an HD player, or would component video still
work? Don't know much about HDMI yet...

Thanks for all feedback!

BD
